Who hasn't heard of One Thousand and One Nights? If nothing else, we came across this collection of Arabic fairy tales, novellas, short stories, and humorous stories in high school literature classes. Well, on March 1, 2016, in the City Theater of Ljubljana (MGL), we will witness the premiere of the two-hour musical One Thousand and One Nights, based on the motifs of the libretto 1001 by Katja Perat.
What a scene before you when you think of One thousand and one nights? A veiled beauty telling stories to a turbaned man in an erotic voice, or a boy rubbing a lamp from which a ghost rises? One Thousand and One Nights is one of the most extensive collections of folk tales with stories originating from Persia, Syria, Egypt and India, or from the lands of the morning (Morning is an old name for the Middle East). It was created during the golden age of Islamic civilization (from the 8th to the 13th century). It brings the whole range of topics that have always been stirring of the curious human spirit and due to their universality have become part of the European perception of the Middle East.
