Best Fashion App – Google Doppl: The app that gives you a new outfit… and creates a new fashion identity

Artificial intelligence now knows what you would look like in a trench coat. Or at least it thinks it does.

If you think artificial intelligence is interfering with your life enough, wait until it starts picking out your shoes. And your underwear. Google is testing a new app called Google Doppl that lets you virtually “wear” almost anything you find online. Pinterest dream? Instagram envy? Now you can try it all on – with one tap. Only… the result is sometimes more “sci-fi burka” than Parisian street style.

Usage Google Doppler is child's play: you upload a picture of yourself (full body, without a hat – apparently this is the new AI phobia), paste screenshots of the chosen fashion fad from the internet… and boom! Doppl creates a picture of you in new clothes. Then comes the “animation” – because, why just stand there like a puppet when you can also wave at the camera like a hologram influencer?

But this is where AI starts to show its slightly weird nature. Author The Verge Emma Roth quickly discovered that the Google Doppler app can handle t-shirts… but it has identity crisis when it comes to pants. In one attempt, her skinny jeans hugged her knees, then transitioned into something that most closely resembled 80s aerobics legwarmers. And in another, her app — we swear — replaced socks with digital feet.

The app also has a dark side: when users download selfies in the mirror, Doppl often “optimizes” them. And not in terms of better colors – but in terms of noticeable weight loss, which makes users look like stylized dolls with heads barely attached to their bodies. Somewhere between a Barbie aesthetic and… a disturbing beauty filter from a dystopian future.

Ironically, if someone else is taking your picture – no problem. Doppl apparently trusts third-party cameras more than your own mirror.

The fashion police have new orders

Google has set some limits, though. If you try to upload a picture of yourself in a bikini or, say, a picture of Donald Trump (which can be just as traumatic in some cases), the app simply says: "Nope."

That's commendable—Doppl doesn't want to be a tool for generating fake and inappropriate images. But hey, in 2025, even AI knows bikini drama isn't worth it.

The virtual cockpit of the future?

Despite the oddities, it's clear that Google is aiming high. It's been experimenting with virtual fitting for a while now, but Doppl is a step further—more clothes, more movement, more personalization. If it ever starts to actually differentiate between jeans and shorts, it could become online shopping revolution.

But for now? Doppl can give you style… and a little existential crisis along the way.

🎯 For those who don't read to the end:

    • Google is testing an app that lets you virtually "try on" clothes online.
    • The results are a mix of fashion fantasy and digital horror.
  • Pants? Still a mystery.
  • AI sometimes makes you a slimmer version of yourself, whether you want it to be or not.
  • You can download it now for Android and iOS. But be prepared for the fact that your own digital image may not recognize you.

Do you dare to trust AI with your wardrobe? Doppl is here – and he has an opinion on your style.
