HiSense sent me their new HiSense U8 TV to test and asked me to compare it to a TV of the same brand that I tested two years ago. A big surprise followed.
The progress of recent years is truly incredible. If we don't take a step back and look at things from a distance, many things can quite surprise us. If we are used to changing smartphones quite often - some even every year - this is not the case for smart TVs. We change them much less often. That's also why I was so surprised when I compared some of the TV numbers HiSense U8 2024 and experienced a "shock" caused by progress in various fields. Let's see.

Basic TV setup - much improved operating system
The biggest surprise compared to the 2022 model was the way you find out basic TV settings. Just two years ago, it was quite awkward to enter all passwords and accesses with the remote control. Now there is an application available, with which you can activate and set practically all the functions of the television, and at the same time it can serve as an additional remote. For example, when you are cooking in the kitchen, you can easily switch programs with your phone. Useful and much more user friendly.
AI - TV that understands everything
If two years ago we could say that television was quite weak for voice control, in 2024 television understands everything. Voice assistants help with switching between applications, searching YouTube and practically all functions. Really convenient and no longer dependent on the "good will" of the digital assistant. The results are really good.
Refresh rate - very close to the monitor
Have you ever wanted a 65 inch computer monitor? In recent years, great progress has been made in this area. Televisions now refresh as fast as gaming monitors, so they could easily be used as a computer monitor. The Hisense U8 2024 refreshes at 144 Hz. Of course, they perfectly complement the game console next to the new HiSense U8 TV. The gaming experience is smooth and fluid.
Brightness and mini LED
One area of really big progress is the nova's luminosity generation of televisions. This is exceptional, or almost 3 times better than in 2022. If the luminance in 2022 reached around 1000 nits, now the television can handle up to 3000 nits of luminance. This is especially noticeable in bright rooms where there is a lot of natural light. The television is as bright as the best screens of smartphones or smart watches that are used in direct light. At the same time, "mini" LEDs have decreased considerably in recent years, but there are much more of them in the screen itself.

A sound that inspires
Picture is important with television, but right next to it, at least for me, is definitely sound on the list. If in the past you needed a "soundbar" as a mandatory part of your TV experience, I think that the new generation of Hisense TVs no longer need it, because the 2.1.2 speaker system with 50W speakers is so good that listening to music on this TV is excellent . The TV can serve as your primary “smart speaker”. Of course, if you're a great audiophile, you'll upgrade the thing, but this is the first time for me that I don't see the need for additional speakers.
A remote that never runs out of power
One more thing surprised me, or rather really pleased me. The most annoying thing, to be honest, is when my remote runs out of batteries, I can't find spares, or I have to charge the batteries first to be able to use the remote again. Well, Hisense has included a solar cell in the remote to keep the batteries charged all the time. At the same time, it also enables charging via USB-C connection. Convenient and, of course, also a bit ecological.
Conclusion
Despite the fact that we have top-notch in our family, a four-year-old television, I was surprised how an affordable model can outrun it HiSense U8 65” 2024, which represents a quantum leap in progress. If you didn't see for yourself, you wouldn't believe how incredibly fast technology is advancing in an area where we don't really notice it, but in a way you should.
