NASA has launched a new initiative called NASA at Home, where everyone who joins the project will be shown and involved in their discoveries, research and exploration of the world and space - all from the comfort of their own home.
Project NASA at Home brings together a collection of wonderful videos and podcasts, e-books with different topics, DIY projects, tours in virtual and augmented reality, including the Hubble Space Telescope and the International Space Station, and an app that takes the seat of the pilot of a NASA plane.
"We recognize that people all over the world, especially students, are looking for ways to get out of the house without actually leaving the house," says Bettina Inclán, an administrator in NASA's Office of Communications. "With the help of NASA, they can look at the sky and see themselves in space. Their imaginations are free to explore wherever they go. They now have it at their fingertips. We hope everyone will take a few moments to explore the NASA at Home project.”
NASA at Home also serves educational purposes, both for adults and children. The initiative makes it possible access to official materials for teaching children, to incredible visual and textual material about how science and research help make the world a better place. Anyone who would like to practice safe science in the shelter of their home has the opportunity to contribute to actual ongoing research. This includes the search for brown dwarfs (bodies that fill the gap between giant gas supergiants and the least massive stars) and planets and help with monitoring changes in clouds, water, plants and other living things.
