If you want to set your movie or video game on the Moon, it is difficult to get quality footage and accurate topographic data of our natural satellite. But NASA just shared a useful and awesome new dataset just for creators.
NASA has released a detailed 3D visualization of the Moon's surface for public use. So called CGI Moon Kit, is composed of data from NASA's lunar reconnaissance satellite, which has been for more than 10 years orbits the Moon and captures topographical data. Artists and designers will be able to use this medium whether it is animations, video games or other forms of art.
The satellite that captured the data is equipped with a camera that acts as a scanner and builds an image by species. It also has a laser altimeter that uses laser pulses to detect the lunar surface. CGI Moon Kit it contains different types of data and images, showing the topography by color so that artists can use this data to create the exact surface of the Moon, complete with all its craters, plateaus, and peaks. The free download is at NASA website.
