Flirting has taken place on dating apps in recent years, and with anonymity, we can quickly become overconfident and carried away.

One of the latest studies published in Personal Relationships, she found out which messages will make flirting in dating apps anything but successful. Also, the study showed that the content of the messages can significantly influence the course of yours dating. The study involved 275 adults under the age of 30 who were asked to rate messages on online dating sites.

Interpersonal communication researcher and lead author of the study, Amanda Lilly, warns against the use of sexually explicit messages, which most users of dating apps do not like: "Even people who are more tolerant of such messages do not view them positively, but at best somewhat neutral .”

The intensity of an individual's response to such messages is significantly influenced by two factors. Gender and motives. According to the study, men view such messages less disapprovingly than women. According to the researcher, the reason for this is in Western culture and the media, which encourages men to be more open to sex, saying that more sexuality has a positive effect on their masculinity. On the other hand, the reason why a person uses a dating app also plays an important role in the response to such messages.

"People who are more interested in casual sexual relationships were more receptive to messages with sexual advances, while those who were looking for a long-term partner viewed these messages much more negatively," explains Lilly. If you send explicit content, don't be surprised if the recipient blocks, ignores or even reports you.

So what is the lesson of said research? It is best to avoid this tactic unless the recipient makes it clear that they are comfortable with this type of communication. Another study showed that excessive and unsuccessful use of dating apps significantly harms mental health.
