The BMW X2 is the car that introduced the Sports Activity Coupé (SAC) vehicle concept for the premium compact segment. And brought an interesting design language. Now the second generation brings even more sportiness and progress in the form of electricity. all in all, it's very similar to the BMW X4 or BMW X6, which aren't exactly the prettiest cars - nor the most practical cars ever. With larger dimensions and a pronounced coupé silhouette - already seen - it clearly shows how far the new BMW X2 has come. The advanced character of the new model is also visible in the all-electric version of the BMW iX2, as well as in numerous systems for automated driving and parking. However, everything is not so rosy. BMW seems to be caught in a car joke - between electricity and classic internal combustion engines. At the same time, it has a serious problem with the design philosophy, which shows various incorrect approaches at every turn.
BMW once again surprised the automotive world with a new design language that raised quite a few eyebrows among the brand's loyal fans. The rear lights in particular are quite different from what we're used to, and some say the car is becoming more and more like Peugeot's design language. Of course, kidding aside, there's a lot of new design language in the car that doesn't seem to belong anywhere.
When we talk about technical specifications, BMW iX2 with 64 kWh the battery promises impressive range, but the reality may not be so rosy. Considering the weight and power of the car, it seems that the realistic range will not be exceeded 330 km. With such a prestigious brand, you would expect a larger battery, at least 75 kWh, which would provide a realistic 400 km.
And then there is the issue of dual identity. BMW seems to be in a dilemma between electric and petrol engines. While brands such as Mercedes-Benz, are building a strategy with clearly separate electric models like EQE and EQS, BMW is still trying to combine both worlds in one car. This may not be the best strategy as it can lead to compromises on both ends of the spectrum.
All this leads us to the conclusion that BMW may be searching for its own identity in a rapidly changing world. And we all hope that it will not become a Peugeot, because this time's rear and optics are reminiscent of models with a lion badge. But we hope they find the right path and continue to make cars that will delight fans of the brand around the world.
The new BMW X2 boasts dynamically stretched lines and an abundance of differently designed surfaces. It has grown by 194 mm in length to 4,554 mm, by 21 mm in width to 1,845 mm and by 64 mm in height to 1,590 mm. The increased wheelbase and wider tracks result in more space for the five seats and the trunk. The new X2 has a maximum volume of 560 to 1,470 liters, depending on the model version. The BMW iX2 – electric – offers between 525 and 1,400 litres.
The drive is provided by several different engines, from gasoline and diesel to fully electric. We will not talk about the details this time. Electric version BMW iX2 xDrive30 boasts two power units that together produce 230 kW/313 hp and 494 Nm of torque. The iX2 xDrive30 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 180 km/h. Thanks to the high-voltage battery with 64.8 kWh of usable energy and the high efficiency of the drive system, it enables a range of 417 to 449 kilometers. Of course, everyone who has ever sat behind the wheel of an electric vehicle knows what this really means - a maximum of 330 kilometers of mixed cycle.
The BMW X2 is undoubtedly a car that brings freshness and innovation to the world of motoring. However, it is clear that BMW faces design challenges that they will need to address if they are to maintain their prestige and reputation in the automotive industry. Many critics and car enthusiasts noticed that the rear part of the car is quite controversial and does not resemble the classic BMW design. At BMW, sooner or later they will have to decide to change the designer, otherwise their cars will become the laughingstock of the profession. Nevertheless, the BMW X2 remains true to its heritage and offers a combination of power, elegance and advanced technology. In a world where boundaries are constantly being pushed, the BMW X2 sets new standards, but it's clear that a serious overhaul will be needed to keep BMW at the forefront of automotive design.
