The International Innovation Fair CES 2014 brings an interesting concept to the electric car market. The new C-MAX Solar Energi Concept is a hybrid vehicle that can be charged via solar cells on the roof.
Instead of powering the battery from the mains, the concept vehicle harnesses the sun's energy with the help of a special concentrator that acts like a magnifying glass and directs intense sunlight into collectors on the roof called SunPower X21 in the size of 1.5 square meters.
The most impressive figure is that solar power is expected to provide 75 percent of all trips taken by the average driver in a solar hybrid vehicle. The range of a fully charged vehicle is said to be up to 1,000 kilometers in combination with fuel. In purely electric mode, the vehicle has a range of up to 35 kilometers. In addition, it also has a connection for electrical stations in case of bad weather.
Information when you could C-MAX Solar Energi Concept has seen serial production, unfortunately not yet. For now, Ford remains in the development of the concept, and because of this, they cannot answer the question about the price of such a vehicle. But it is definitely a step for a better future and as they say at Ford: "The development of such a vehicle is particularly important in places where the electricity grid is underdeveloped, unreliable and expensive".
