Summer is slowly approaching, and with it the new movies of 2021. Which ones should you absolutely not miss?
We can't wait for summer - the sun, hanging out with family and friends (in a safe way, of course) and watching one of the many new movies coming out this summer. How many of these films and when we will be able to watch them in Slovenian cinemas is not yet known, but thank God for streaming services where it will be possible to watch most of them. Mainstream (2021)
Expected release: May 7
Link (Andrew Garfield) is the star of a popular streaming channel and has it all: money, fame, hot women... But at some point, his true self begins to show, just as he is about to reach the peak of his career. It also stars Nat Wolff and Maya Hawke, and includes some famous YouTubers. This is a must watch movie if you are interested in what happens when fame takes over life.
Cruella
Expected release: May 28
Ever wonder how exactly Cruella de Vil became the villain we all want to be (at least as far as fashion is concerned)? Emma Stone explores the origins of the 101 Dalmatians character in her own unique way. Naughty? Yes. Causing trouble? Oh, yes. And hot fashions? Do not doubt!
A Quiet Place Part II (2021)
Expected release: May 28
We should have seen the horror movie last year, but unfortunately the pandemic interrupted all our plans. This year, though, you'll finally get to see what happened to the Abbott family after the events of the first film. We can not wait!
In the Heights (2021)
Expected release: June 11
The Tony Award-winning musical about the Dominican community in New York is finally getting its film adaptation, starring some of Hollywood's biggest stars: Anthony Ramos, Stephanie Beatriz, Marc Anthony and Daphne Rubin-Vega. Get ready for singalong tunes that won't get you out of your head for days.
Zola (2021)
Expected release: June 30
While the film already premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, it will now be available to general audiences. Following the events of 148 tweets on Twitter, Zola and Stefani embark on a trip to strip clubs in Florida to make tons of money. Get ready for a wild weekend!
Top Gun 2 (Top Gun: Maverick, 2021)

Another movie you should have seen last year. In the highly anticipated sequel to the 1986 film, Tom Cruise will reprise his role as a top naval pilot, just as a new generation of aviators enters the scene. Black Widow (2021)

After such a tough year, we all deserve to see some good action on our screens this summer. And a film starring Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) will satisfy all those who have wondered what led to the popular Avengers character becoming the coolest female character in the Marvel Universe.
Space Jam: New Legacy (2021)
Expected release: July 16
Just 25 years after the hit movie brought in millions at the box office, fans will have the chance to see a whole new cast of stars alongside their favorite Looney Tunes characters. In this version, Lebron James and his son will be stuck in virtual space, searching for a way home (with the help of some friends).
Jungle Cruise (2021)
Expected release: July 30
The film follows a riverboat captain (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) who accompanies a scientist (Emily Blunt) on her way to the Tree of Life, which is said to have magical powers to heal anyone she touches. With the adventures they have in store, this is sure to be a fun movie.
The Green Knight (2021)
Expected release: July 30
There seems to be no shortage of ways to tell the legend of King Arthur, and a film that attempts to show how knights become men of honor is no different. Sir Gawain (Dev Patel) sets out in search of the Green Knight, a strange villain terrorizing the people of Camelot. The film also features an excellent cast (Alicia Vikander and Joel Edgerton).
The Suicide Squad (2021)
Expected release: August 6
The long-awaited film is finally coming to cinemas (or other screens) around the world. Made as a stand-alone sequel to 2016's The Unwritten Squad, it follows some of the most famous characters from the DC Universe. They are on a mission to destroy a Nazi prison known to be conducting harmful experiments. And if you're wondering who's going to show up, don't worry: Margot Robbie, Elba and John Cena will be there.
Respect (2021)
Expected release: August 13
We all need a little Aretha Franklin here and there. Oscar winner and Grammy winner (don't forget she's also an American idol!) Jennifer Hudson portrays the iconic singer in her chart-topping days. This movie will captivate you with love, historical events and music, and you will only love Aretha even more.
Candyman (2021)
Expected release: August 27
Some viewers may remember the 1992 version, but this remake of the horror classic (starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) is a spin-off for modern audiences. It tells the story of a visual artist who accidentally resurrects a supernatural killer just three decades after he wreaked havoc in Chicago.
