The Micra is back. This time without petrol, with a French accent and with the hope that it won't be just another "Re:Nissan" loss. What does the small Japanese-French electric crossover - the new Nissan Micra 2026 - bring?
The new Nissan Micra 2026 is the result of close collaboration between Nissan and Renault, meaning it is essentially a Renault 5 with a Nissan badge. Its design is distinguished by more rounded lines reminiscent of the Mini Cooper, and the addition of plastic trim that gives it a crossover feel. The overall length is less than 4 meters and the width is less than 1.8 meters, which places it among compact city cars.
Electric drive and performance: New Nissan Micra 2026
The new Nissan Micra 2026 will be available with two battery packs:
- 40 kWh: 121 hp (90 kW), 225 Nm of torque, range up to 310 km (193 miles).
- 52 kWh: 148 hp (110 kW), 245 Nm of torque, range up to 408 km (254 miles).
Both versions support fast charging: 80 kW for the smaller battery and 100 kW for the larger battery, allowing charging from 15 % to 80 % in about 30 minutes.
Interior and technology
The Micra's interior is almost identical to the Renault 5, with two 10.1-inch screens and 48-color ambient lighting. Three different interior themes are available: Modern, Audacious and Chill. The boot capacity is 326 liters, which is above average for this segment.
Driving dynamics
The Micra uses the AmpR Small platform, which includes multi-link rear suspension, a rarity in this class. This promises improved driving dynamics and comfort. Thanks to its low weight (1,400 kg for the smaller battery and 1,524 kg for the larger battery) and compact dimensions, the Micra is agile and suitable for city driving.
Price and availability
Although the official price is not yet known, the entry-level model is expected to cost around 25,000 euros, which is comparable to the Renault 5. Sales will begin at the end of 2025, with first deliveries scheduled for early 2026.
R5 vs. New Nissan Micra 2026
The new Nissan Micra 2026 represents an interesting combination of Japanese and French automotive philosophies. Although it is basically a Renault 5 with a different badge, it brings some unique design and technological solutions. With two battery options, fast charging capacity and a modern interior, the Micra is a competitive choice in the electric city car segment. The question remains whether it will be able to convince buyers who are looking for something more than just a rebadged version of an existing model.
