We have already seen the sixth generation of one of the oldest European cars in the compact class. The new generation brings a completely new design and, in time, also electrification. The new Opel Astra will once again be produced in its native Rüsselseheim, but it will have to face strong competition in the form of the Golf, Focus, Megane and Octavia.
A new generation Opel Astra is impressive at first glance. Completely changed design, both outside and inside, suggest modern times and at the same time provide a noticeable difference between the European ″cousins″. The new Astra shares a platform with the Peugeot 308, and despite the fact that they have similar ″innards″, they are not the least bit similar on the outside, as the Astra is significantly bolder in design.
In terms of size, the Astra has kept its proportions, which have changed little. The most noticeable difference was the wheelbase, which increased by 13 mm. The changed shape contributed to an increase in luggage space, which will now be available for 422 liters, which means an increase of 52 liters compared to the previous generation.
The interior also received a significant renovation. In it, we see the concept of less is more, as many buttons have been replaced by so-called shortcut buttons, and most functions will also be accessed via 10-inch screen with touch control. They will be available to the driver digital gauges in the form of a 10-inch screen. The new Opel Astra is full of technology. They will be available matrix LED headlights, with 84 light-emitting diodes. Radar cruise control with Stop & Go function, projection screen and 360° camera will also be available.
At the moment, not much is known about the drives, but we do know that the new Opel Astra will already be available with gasoline ones and diesel engines and for the first time also with plug-in hybrids. Engines will have from 100 until 225 horsepower, and they will be connected via manual 6-speed gearbox or via 8-speed automatic gearbox. The new Astra will be available in the beginning of the future years, and we can expect another presentation in the coming months caravans derivatives of Astra.
