Renault's all-new model, the Renault 5 E-Tech 2024, is an electric vehicle that will be officially unveiled at the end of February 2024, but images of the attractive Zoe successor EV have already surfaced. Patent images released by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) show the subcompact model in all its retro-modern glory. Alpine, Renault's performance division, will use this basis for an electric hot hatchback.
One of the most noticeable features Renault 5 E-Tech 2024 is the charge indicator on the bonnet that we saw in the demo pictures. The car has two charging ports: one on the left and one on the right front fender. The wheel design has also been largely carried over from the concept, although the rims appear to be slightly smaller.
Unveiling the Renault 5 E-Tech 2024
Patent images published by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) are like a window into the past looking into the future. They reveal the Renault 5 E-Tech in all its retro-modern glory. This attractive electric vehicle (EV) will be the successor to the Zoe model, which is exciting in itself.
The idea of reviving retro design with the new Renault 5 E-Tech model is undoubtedly interesting and attention-grabbing. This approach to design allows Renault to connect with its rich history while introducing modern technological innovations. However, in the overall picture of the Renault range, such a design decision can be perceived as a distraction. The retro design is very different from the modern design language used by Renault in its other models. This difference in aesthetics can create an inconsistency in Renault's brand identity.
Nevertheless, Renault has recently proven to be a truly brave company when it comes to design. They managed to imbue their models with uniqueness and stand out in the competitive car market. Therefore, the retro approach to the Renault 5 E-Tech can also be seen as part of a larger strategy for diversity and innovation in design. With this, Renault emphasizes its commitment to creating vehicles that are not only functional, but also aesthetically appealing and emotionally resonant.
Compared to the concept, the production R5 loses the rear light bar, making room for a black trim. It has larger wing mirrors and traditional front door handles instead of those seen on the concept vehicle. The rear door handle mounted on the C-pillar is now larger. The black roof and red accents suggest that this is the top-of-the-line version of the small EV.
Initially, the Renault 5 E-Tech will be sold exclusively with a 52.0 kilowatt battery, which will provide a range of 400 kilometers (249 miles) according to the WLTP standard. A cheaper version with a 40.0 kWh battery and a shorter range will be added later. These batteries will have a higher energy density compared to the Zoe. The new EV will be smaller, measuring just 3.92 meters (154.3 inches) long.
As for the price, the company with the diamond logo says it will charge around 25,000 euros ($27,000). The world premiere of the Renault 5 E-Tech is scheduled for February 26 at the 2024 Geneva Motor Show.
