The new Volkswagen ID.2 all: a concept as spacious as a Golf, as accessible as a Polo

The new Volkswagen ID.2

Volkswagen is preparing a new electric vehicle, which is clearly teased by the upcoming ID.2all concept. This electric vehicle, which is expected to enter the European market in 2025, will be spacious and affordable with a price below 25,000 euros. The ID.2 will be VW's first front-wheel drive model to ride on the latest MEB Entry platform, measuring 4050mm in length and 1812mm in width. Its design language looks fresh but familiar, and the cabin is equipped with a 12.9-inch touchscreen and physical buttons to address previous complaints at the expense of poor usability.

Is this the new Volkswagen Golf?! Or the new Volkswagen ID.2?

Volkswagen is doubling down on its commitment to electrification, and the ID.2 all concept is proof of its serious intent. The German car manufacturer is ready to bring an all-new electric vehicle to the market and occupy the segment where the Golf and Polo reigned supreme. It is designed to be spacious and affordable, with a price tag under 25,000 euros, and will be available in Europe in 2025.

The new Volkswagen ID.2 all measures 4,050mm in length, 1,812mm in width and 1,530mm in height, with 2,600mm between the wheels. The car is shorter than a Golf, but designed to be just like its grandfather. It offers up to 1,330 liters of luggage space, which is quite impressive. Of course, when the bench seat is collapsed. The ID.2 all is based on the latest evolution of the MEB Entry platform, making it VW's first front-wheel-drive electric model.

The concept ID.2all powered by a 166-kilowatt electric motor with a power of 222 horsepower, which propels the electric vehicle from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in less than seven seconds. It reaches a maximum speed of 160 kilometers per hour (unfortunately not more), and the range is predicted to be 450 kilometers according to WLTP, so in reality we subtract a good 20 percent and thus get a real range of around 350 kilometers of intercity driving, or mixed cycle.

The design of the Volkswagen ID.2all is fresh and modern, with a familiar look that VW fans will love. The C-pillar is inspired by the first Golf, and the front part has a friendly face with a light element across the entire width between the headlights. The cabin is equipped with a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system and physical buttons to address previous complaints, including a volume control wheel and simplified control layout.

Volkswagen plans to launch by 2026 ten new electric vehicles and ID.2all is just one of them. The automaker is also planning to launch an affordable EV with a starting price of under 20,000 euros. With the ID.2all, Volkswagen is proving that it's serious about electric cars, and it's something to be cautiously excited about.

Namely, the ID electric series of cars experienced a lot of shortcomings and complaints from the owners of the latter. But we believe that Volkswagen will come together and take things to a higher level.
