Volkswagen has finally unveiled the new VW Golf R Variant 2025, a version of the popular fast hatchback aimed primarily at the European market. The Golf R Variant is equipped with the same technological goodies as its less practical sibling, which means there's even more power under the hood.
New VW Golf R Variant 2025 boasts a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo gasoline engine that now develops 329 horsepower (245 kW/333 PS) and 420 Nm of torque. This is an improvement of 14 hp compared to the previous version, while the torque remains the same. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds, which is a tenth faster than before. The maximum speed is 250 km/h as standard, but with the optional Performance package it can reach 270 km/h.
Performance and ride
The VW Golf R Variant 2025 is the fastest VW wagon, next to the Arteon R Shooting Brake. Both models reach the same top speed, but the Golf R hatchback is slightly quicker to 100 km/h because it is lighter and reaches this speed in 4.6 seconds. The new model is also equipped with improved aerodynamics and lighter 19-inch forged wheels called Warmenau, which are 20 percent lighter than conventional aluminum wheels.
Technology and Innovation
In addition to the improved lights from the revised Golf Mk8.5 series, it has a new one VW Golf R Variant 2025 also illuminated VW badge. Exclusively, it has four-wheel drive, a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and a torque distribution system. The Performance package also includes matrix LED headlights, a G-meter and a GPS lap meter. A special drift mode is available for drift fans.
European Exclusive
Europeans are also privileged to enjoy a special version Golf R Black Edition, which is based on the hatchback and features dark accents, larger 19-inch wheels and a Performance package. Luxury light alloys are available at an additional cost.
The future of the Golf R Portfolio
VW is not resting on its laurels, as it is already planning the release of a hardcore version of the Clubsport, which will be more focused on driving on racetracks. This model will most likely serve as the all-wheel drive equivalent of the GTI Clubsport, which has 296 hp.
Price Affordability and Offer
For the German market, the new Golf R is surprisingly cheaper than its predecessor, although exact prices have not yet been announced. In Slovenia, we expect the new Golf R Variant to be price competitive in its segment. Although exclusive to Europe, the Golf R Variant is sure to attract a lot of attention for its performance, practicality and technological sophistication.
