Nike Vomero Premium: A 55mm supershoe that erases gravity underfoot

The highest heel without wrinkles, plus a lightweight version – what to choose?

Even before you tie your laces, the scales will show zero – at least that's what Nike promises with its new stars of the Nike Vomero Premium line. The Premium with an incredible 55 mm of foam under the heel and its "lighter" brother Plus with 45 mm promise an anti-gravity treadmill experience, but without an expensive device in your home living room. Fasten your seatbelts, and a turbulent flight into the most comfortable running orbit follows!

The Vomero has been considered the “BMW 7 Series” of running shoes since 2006, always a little softer, a little more luxurious than the more democratic Pegasus. Now Nike organizes its collection into three clear pillars – Structure (stability), Pegasus (responsiveness) and Vomero (maximum cushioning) – each in Icon, Plus and Premium packages. Finally, navigation that doesn’t require a PhD in foam. So – the Nike Vomero Premium.

Nike Vomero Premium – Plus or Premium? Size (Really) Matters

  • Vomero Plus – full ZoomX from heel to toe, 45mm stack, rocker profile and wider platform for cloud riding without tilting.
  • Vomero Premium – 55mm (!) in the heel, the highest in Nike's road fleet, lined with exposed Air Zoom capsules front and rear that expand like Formula 1 airbags with every step.

Technology sandwich: ZoomX + Air Zoom = 85 % energy return

ZoomX—the foam we know from marathon “super shoes”—remains the king of propulsion, returning a whopping 85 % of energy according to Nike tests. Add in air capsules, first seen as neon noodles in a side dish sandwich, and you have a trampoline that sends you a step further while cushioning the impact like a five-star hotel pillow.

Anti-gravity inspiration

Nike engineers scoured the elite runners' lab, where they lighten up their mileage on Alter-G treadmills. The idea: how to transfer the "run 30 % lighter" feeling to the asphalt? The answer is Premium - a thick heel that absorbs shock and expanding air capsules that almost catapult you forward. For anyone who wants to run "easy" on Sunday, at the speed of a Saturday sprint to the bakery.

Who has something written on the sole? Nike Vomero Premium

  • Marathon grizzlies: The Premium will serve as a “super trainer” – a shoe that you wear the day after intervals, but still gives you the feel of a race.
  • New & recreational runners: The Plus offers a soft rocking motion, but at a more down-to-earth (read: less epic) height – which means more stability for untrained ankles.
  • Hoka-style pen lovers: if you've been impressed by the 48mm Skyward X, get ready to be lifted another seven millimeters higher with the Premium.

Date, price and color combinations

  • Vomero Plus: August 7th at nike.com and select retailers, $170 (expected €179.99).
  • Vomero Premium: October 2nd exclusively, October 16th globally, $220 (around €229.99).
The color stories remain a secret (for now), but you can bet on fluorescent accents that will shine like a neon “RUN” sign on the city asphalt.

The final verdict of Vogue-weight-aholics

If you've ever wanted a pair of shoes that do the work for you (at least some of it) and look like a set from Blade Runner, you've found it. The Premium will be the king of Instagram and a massage parlor for sword fibers, while the Plus is a reliable every-run partner for those who don't yet believe in total weightlessness. From here on out, you only have one more dilemma: is your closet tall enough for 55 millimeters of pure foam?
