Nina Jagodic is a renowned costume designer and stylist who works in Slovenia and abroad. In addition to independent projects with various clients, he has devoted a lot of time to work at Radiotelevision Slovenia for 15 years. She was also the editor of Modna magazine, and in recent years she has been paying most of her attention to the LJFW platform, where she is the program manager and manages the behind-the-scenes of the magazines. In cooperation with designers, he manages magazines from the idea to the final implementation.
Nina is one of the three members of the jury of the "Inspired by You" competition, which was announced by LJFW and Samsung. Designers from all fields are invited to come up with creative solutions for accessories for the Samsung Galaxy Flip4 (you can find more about the competition here). In addition to her, the jury includes Bojana Fajmut and Alja Horvat. We chatted with Nina about what the LJFW platform actually means for the development of Slovenian fashion and what she will pay attention to when choosing the winner of the competition.
What does the LJFW platform actually mean for the development of the Slovenian fashion scene?
Nina Jagodic: LJFW is a platform that researches, supports and introduces designers and fashion brands to the public, connecting all segments and supporters of the fashion industry: from photographers, stylists to buyers and sponsors. LJFW is therefore a place that supports the Slovenian fashion sector with its activities and unites and thus develops various professions in the field of fashion.
Ljubljana Fashion Week was, and still is, a springboard for many who work in the fashion industry. Could you single out anyone in particular?
Nina Jagodic: Over the years, many names of Slovenian fashion creation in various fields have appeared through the platform of LJFW, not only in fashion design, but also photographers, models, make-up artists... There are too many of these names that achieve success, both here and abroad , so that I could list them here. But if I had to single out someone who recently inspires beyond our borders, it would be Monika Colja.
What is your recipe for success in the fashion industry?
Nina Jagodic: Love for fashion, talent and hard work.
It must be really interesting to follow the development of Slovenian fashion from the time you started working with LJFW until today. What are these changes?
Nina Jagodic: I have been following the Slovenian fashion scene as a stylist for fifteen years. During this time, social networks and fashion blogs appeared, physical stores were supplemented by online sales — all of the above contribute to greater recognition and accessibility of brands and designers. I myself welcome this greater accessibility. LJFW also contributes to these changes within the Slovenian fashion space, which tries to make fashion more accessible by focusing on more wearable collections that are not necessarily seasonal and are available on the market immediately or in a very short time.
You are also a stylist and costume designer. How much do you use pieces from Slovenian fashion designers in your work?
Nina Jagodic: A lot, wherever the project allows.
How much do you use your phone at work?
Nina Jagodic: Very much. The phone is my little office. I use it mostly for photography, but it also serves me for quick notes and moodboards.
Do you use fashion accessories for your phone?
Nina Jagodic: I'm pretty clumsy, so accessories are a necessity for me. I put the phone in a strong case with tape so that I can always have it safely with me. I carefully coordinated the cover and the ribbon.
You are a member of the jury at the Inspired by You competition. What will you pay attention to when choosing the best ideas?
On the wearability of the accessory itself, its appearance and usability.
