NIU, long synonymous with practical urban e-scooters, presents the Concept 06 – a bold vision that, with 20 kW (27 hp) of power and a top speed of 155 km/h (96 mph), goes where conventional scooters don’t go. In addition to the power, it brings a rich technology package, radars, smart projected warning lights and an AI system that analyzes the ride. But because it’s still a concept, important data such as battery, range and charging time remain hidden behind the curtain.

Electric scooters are usually simple, quiet and a bit boring companions of everyday city life. Functionality is at the forefront, not adrenaline rush. Then comes the NIU Concept 06 – an upgraded version of a scooter from the future that has decided it has had enough of urban sluggishness. With its low, wide silhouette, aggressive LED lines and surprising power, it feels like it wants to cross the line between scooter and motorcycle. A concept that promises not just transportation, but a new mobility experience.

Power and performance: a scooter that demands highway power

The central figure of the Concept 06 is an engine with power 20 kW, which means approximately 27 hp. This is a value that leaves conventional scooters far behind. NIU claims that the top speed 155 km/h (96 mph), which theoretically puts it in a class where it can comfortably move along the highway and overtake vehicles without feeling like it's being pulled by a parachute behind it.

While NIU hasn't released torque and acceleration figures yet, we do know that the electric motors deliver peak torque instantly—meaning fast, linear acceleration with no pause, no shifting, no drama. That also puts it above BMW's CE 04, which reaches 120 km/h (75 mph).

Battery and range: the secret to keeping the voltage up

When it comes to electric two-wheelers, the battery is what determines usability. But with the Concept 06, NIU has yet to reveal data on capacity, charging time, and range. This is a deliberate move – the concept is intended to create excitement, not reveal the whole picture.

Expert sources estimate that the battery will likely range between 6 and 9 kWh, which could enable about 150 km (93 mi) of real-world range. That would put it right next to the CE 04, which can do about 130 km (81 mi) with an 8.9 kWh battery.

If NIU is really aiming higher with the Concept 06, we can also expect fast charging – perhaps around an hour to 80 %, which is already standard in this segment. But until official data comes in, everything remains in the realm of expectations.

Technology: an intelligence that is sometimes more curious than we would like

If performance is what surprises, technology is the element that spices up the story. Concept 06 relies on its new operating system Linux OS, which drives a large 9.3-inch TFT display. It uses a combination of a touchscreen and a rotary control – a solution familiar from high-end cars.

The most prominent feature is AI co-pilot – a system that monitors the movement of the surroundings, learns the driving style and projects warnings on the ground when you get too close to another vehicle. This is technology that wants to be your assistant, supervisor and mentor at the same time. It will excite some, it may be a little annoying for others.

Here are also:
– proximity surveillance radar,
– front and rear cameras,
Sentry Mode, which records suspicious movements while parking,
Push Assist, which helps with maneuvering in the garage,
– electrically adjustable steering wheel and windshield,
– lighting projection onto the floor for greater visibility.

Design: like a futuristic scooter escaped from a movie set

Visually, the NIU Concept 06 looks like it was designed by a science fiction fan. Sharp lines, a wide body, a long front grille, advanced lighting – this is not an evolution of NIU's classic city models, but a complete transformation of their design language.

The chassis, designed by the TKX.LAB studio, is said to offer a balance between precise handling and comfort, while dual disc brakes provide confidence at higher speeds.

With a scooter looking this serious, it's clear that NIU wants to prove that it can compete with the big guys. This is no longer a brand that makes cute urban gadgets - this is a challenger in the maxi-scooter segment.

NIU Concept 06 is something special – an electric maxi-scooter that aims to surpass the scooters we know. With 20 kW of power and a speed of 155 km/h, it is capable of highway driving, and with an advanced AI system and radars, it enters a segment usually reserved for large motorcycles.

Of course, since it's still a concept, questions remain: battery capacity, range, charging time, price and time to market. But as a vision of future electric mobility, the Concept 06 is a clear signal: scooters are no longer just handy urban helpers – they can be fast, smart and ambitious.

If NIU actually brings this model to production and retains most of the technology, this scooter could become the new benchmark among electric maxi-scooters. For now, however, it's a great glimpse into the future, promising a combination of power, smarts, and design courage.
