Tesla has officially unveiled the redesigned Tesla Model Y 2025 (Juniper) in China, which brings numerous improvements and design changes similar to those of last year's Model 3 refresh.
Tesla Model Y has been the king of electric SUVs for a while now, but kings need a refresh to keep their crown. 2025 brings a revamped Tesla Model Y 2025, which is not just slightly refreshed, but enriched with improvements that will make it continue to be among the best-selling electric vehicles in the world. Of course, the refresh doesn't come cheap - expect a slight price increase as well.
What's new on the exterior?
If you already loved the minimalist design of the Model Y, you'll be thrilled with the redesign. If you were bothered by the fact that it was too similar in design to the Model 3, the refresh might change your mind. The car is now almost 2 inches longer and measures 4.79 meters, and the wheelbase remains 2.89 meters.
The biggest changes are at the front, where new, narrow headlights with a continuous light line across the entire front are installed. This detail immediately evokes a sense of futurism and is a bit reminiscent of the Cybertruck. A similar design move has been used at the rear – a wide light strip that now connects the rear lights gives the car a more confident and elegant look. Although it seems subtle, this is a major design leap for Tesla.
What about the interior? The digital cockpit revolution
The Model Y has not only gained inches, but also comfort. Inside, we see an even cleaner design, without physical steering wheel-mounted paddles for controlling the drive. Everything is digitalized, with switches on the steering wheel and via the center screen. Judging by the photos, the turn signals are still activated with a classic lever – which is a relief for anyone who swears by some physical elements.
Tesla didn't skimp on those in the back seats - it's been added 12.3 inch screen, which allows passengers to watch their own content or listen to music with a separate audio source via headphones while driving. Yes, the kids will finally be quiet during long journeys!
The seats are additionally padded and ergonomically improved, which will be especially pleasing to those who use the Model Y for long trips. After the renovation, the car has even better soundproofing, which means less wind noise and more comfort while driving.
Batteries, motors and range: a step forward
But what's most important? Range! Tesla promises up to 40 kilometers more range with improved aerodynamics and energy efficiency optimization. The base single-engine RWD version will continue to use 62 kWh LFP battery (lithium-iron-phosphate), while the Long Range version will have 78 kWh NMC battery.
The base RWD model offers 220 kW (299 hp), providing enough power for everyday driving, while the Long Range version with four-wheel drive delivers 331 kW (450 hp), which means acceleration that will keep you glued to your seat. Tesla promises that acceleration will be even faster by a few tenths of a second, which is already pretty impressive for an SUV.
The car remains on 400-volt architecture, which means that charging at the fastest charging stations remains almost the same speed – from 10 to 80 % in good 30 minutesIt won't be record-breaking fast like the Porsche Taycan or Hyundai Ioniq 5, but still more than enough for relaxed stops on longer drives.
Expected price: how much will have to be paid?
Tesla always likes to play with price, but it has already revealed in China that the redesigned Model Y will be more expensive by around 5 %The base RWD version now costs around 263,500 yuan (approx 34.000 €, or 35.900 $). The Long Range version is expected to exceed the limit 45.000 €, depending on market and optional equipment.
The price for the Performance version, which has not yet been detailed, will likely be even higher and could even reach 60.000 €.
When will you arrive in Europe?
The redesigned Model Y will be available in China in March 2025, and in Europe it is expected to arrive a little later - probably towards the summer. European customers are always waiting a little longer, as Tesla has to obtain all the necessary permits. Given the exceptional demand, production in Germany at the Gigafactory Berlin is likely to start quickly.
Is it worth waiting for the redesigned Model Y?
If you're a Tesla fan, the answer is almost certainly "yes." Redesigned Tesla Model Y It retains all the key features that made it a hit – space, practicality, range and performance – while improving technology and comfort. It’s priced higher, but given what it offers, it’s still competitive with other electric SUVs like Hyundai Ioniq 5, Audi Q4 e-tron or Ford Mustang Mach-E.
However, if the price doesn't convince you, there's always the option to opt for the current version of the Model Y, which will likely be slightly cheaper due to the arrival of the new model - which can be a great opportunity to buy a used or new vehicle at a bargain price.
Final thought: the king of electric SUVs remains king
The Tesla Model Y has a fresh face and an improved heart with its new redesign, meaning it will continue to be a popular choice for anyone looking for-
