According to a recent study published in the journal Microbiome, with a kiss you not only show your love for someone, but also "gift" them as many as 80 million bacteria. Mmmm, delicious!
Scientists from the Netherlands are in Amsterdam Artist Royal Zoo invited to participate 21 pairs, who had a sample taken from their lips before and after the kiss. To monitor the transfer of bacteria, the researchers had to ensure that the participants were before sharing a kiss consumed probiotic yogurt. In this way, they were able to look for a specific bacteria that is otherwise found in such yogurts.
The researchers found another interesting and somewhat unsavory statistic: couples share similar oral bacteria. In other words: two strangers are more unlikely to have the same oral bacteria, and a couple is that much more likely. Although this all sounds not very tasty, it is completely normal. There are trillions of microorganisms in our body and some diversity of bacteria is a positive thing that should even strengthens the immune system.
