Marko Butina was born on February 28, 1950 in Maribor. In 1976, he finished studying painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana with prof. Janez Bernik and in 1979 postgraduate studies in restoration with prof. To Franc Kokal.
While studying at the special school, he taught art composition at the Center of Professional Schools - photography department for two years (1976-77) and taught art theory at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology for one year (1984).
Since 1977 he taught art classes at several elementary schools, in 1987 he got a job at the Restoration Center as a restorer in the field of "easel" and wall painting. From 1999 to 2005, he taught the subject studio drawing and painting at the College of Drawing and Painting in Ljubljana. He died on May 19, 2008 in Ohrid, Macedonia.
