On the last night of the year, an opera by the composer Gioacchino Rossini will be performed on the stage of SNG Maribor, which is famous as one of the most popular and most frequently performed comic operas of all time: The Barber of Seville.
Rossini is an opera Il barbiere di Siviglia written way back in 1819, but the opera is still one of the most famous and popular operas of all time due to its sparkling humor and exceptional solo scores. The story is about adventures of the shrewd barber Figaro, who offers his services to the desperate Count Almaviva. It's the latter in love with the attractive Rosina, but standing in the way of their happiness is the jealous Bartolo, who also wants to marry the beauty.

The new layout of the Barber of Seville directed by Piero Francesco Maestrini was premiered on the Maribor stage on October 2, and since then it has been enthralling mainly because of the visually attractive and imaginative costumes by Joshua Held (who is also the scenographer and animation author) and Luca Dall'Alpi, and because of the virtuosity of the exceptional soloists Maribor Opera Ensemble.
