Oris has unveiled the Oris x Bamford ProPilot Altimeter 'Mission Control', a collaboration with Bamford Watch Department, at Geneva Watch Days. It's the only self-winding mechanical watch with a built-in mechanical altimeter, now in a bold black-neon aesthetic. 47mm carbon case, titanium, 100m water resistance and Oris 793 with 56 hours of power reserve – and a price tag of CHF 6,700 or approximately USD 8,100. Limited to 250 numbered pieces.

If you're wondering whether you're higher than Planica or just your neighbor's balcony, there's a more fun way than refreshing the app on phone: mechanical altimeter on the wrist. Outline and George Bamford took the Oris x Bamford ProPilot Altimeter 'Mission Control' on a colorful "mission" - neon scales, great readability, tool-like character, and enough irony to remind you that this is both an instrument and a fashion statement.

What is 'Mission Control' and why is it important?

The 'Mission Control' is a new, 250-piece edition of the ProPilot Altimetra, presented at Geneva Watch Days 2025. The limited edition, immediate availability and price of around CHF 6,700 (approximately USD 8,100) make it one of the hottest new releases of the season. At the same time, it remains a serious technical speciality: Oris continues to manufacture only self-winding mechanical watch with built-in mechanical altimeter.

Case: carbon + titanium, aircraft grade

The case is 47 mm, made of carbon fiber composite with gray PVD-coated titanium (covering the bezel and caseback), with a double-domed sapphire (anti-reflective on the inside) and 10 bar water resistance. Oris officially states “multi-piece” carbon/titanium construction, while some retailers and articles talk about “single-piece” carbon – in practice it’s the same philosophy: a lightweight composite shell reinforced with titanium. The ‘Mission Control’ is based on a carbon architecture that Oris introduced in 2023 with the help of 9T Labs (additive/composite extrusion molding). The result is a surprisingly low weight (around “under 100g” for the ProPilot Altimeter platform) and a feeling of “lightness” on the wrist despite the XXL diameter.

How a mechanical altimeter works

The altimeter crown is located at 4 o'clock. When you unscrew it in position 1, a red safety ring appears – the system is active and air begins to flow into the housing, acting on the aneroid capsule. In position 2 calibrate the reference (known altitude or air pressure, data reported by control towers, for example): from here on yellow indicator shows the height on the outer ring, red and absolute air pressure. When you screw the crown back in, the watch returns to full water resistance of 100 m. The scale on this edition measures up to 19,700 feet (≈ 6,000 m).

Dimensions and ergonomics: size without excuses

This is a great instrument: 47 mm in diameter, 16.7mm in thickness and 55mm lug-to-lug. The carbon construction and textile strap help to make it comfortable to wear and excellent readability – this is a watch that screams “high visibility” and isn’t ashamed of it. The caseback is engraved with a feet ↔ meters conversion chart, and the strap has a colored (yellow/lime) lining and a titanium folding clasp with micro-adjustment.

Caliber 793: reliable foundation, 56 hours of power reserve

Inside the ticking Oris Calibre 793‑1 (SW300 family), with a 56-hour power reserve at 4 Hz, with a second “hacking” and a quick date at 3 o’clock. The set of functions is completed by a mechanical altimeter – and this in a self-winding watch, which is a rarity among rarities.

“Mission Control” design: an instrument that glows

Black “instrument” dial with contrasting yellow, lime and red The emphasis is directly subordinate to the function. The scales are sunken and arranged on two levels, the lumen is printed (Super‑LumiNova) – at night everything is as legible as reading the gauge in the cockpit of an airplane. Surprisingly large, but sober, with a playful color vignette that any Bamford follower will recognize a mile away.

Price and availability

Oris x Bamford ProPilot Altimeter 'Mission Control' it is limited to 250 pieces, with official price CHF 6,700 (in the US market $8.100 / comparable in Europe). It's available now, the numbers are numbered, and you also get a special box in the kit. If you want a version without the Bamford colors, the "regular" ProPilot Altimeter (in feet or meters) also remains in the regular offer.

Conclusion: an altimeter that can count meters and views

'Mission Control' is one of those watches that is honestly technical and at the same time unique fun. If you need an accurate altimeter for hiking or piloting a glider, you have it on your wrist. If you just need an excuse for a big carbon watch with a neon rim, you have it too. In an age where wrists are awash with smart sensors, it’s a little mechanical defiance—and prime proof that Swiss horology is still crazy about fancy complications. Next step? Test how quickly your daily elevator ride “overcomes” a hundred feet.
