Artist Nikolai Tolstyh cuts animal silhouettes out of paper and places them in front of a natural background. The combination is surprisingly perfect. This brings the animals to life, as the background gives them their natural appearance. Therefore, the location is not a coincidence, as the artist is looking for those that will imitate the actual appearance of the animal as closely as possible.
Paper cutting it has been with us for centuries, and people in China have been playing with it since at least the 6th century. But because the Chinese manufacturers have protected extremely well for 500 years the secret of making paper, it started to be printed in Europe "only" in the 10th century, and the practice of paper cutting took several more centuries to catch on (it developed in the 16th and 17th centuries).
