Do you have some expired foods in the fridge? Check if they are still healthy to eat.
These are foods that are no longer good to eat if their expiration date has passed. Many foods are still edible, even after the expiration date, but some of them can become dangerous.
Leafy vegetables
If you're buying packaged chard, arugula, or other green leafy vegetables, stick to the expiration date. Bacteria such as these can develop among vegetables of this type E. coli. Although the packaging says that the vegetables are pre-washed, it is therefore recommended to wash them just in case.
Spreads
Spreads can be very dangerous if consumed after the expiration date. We often use the same knife to spread different foods, which can lead to contamination and the development of harmful bacteria. Therefore, it is important to use spreads within their shelf life and to pay attention to hygiene when using them.
Salads with potatoes, meat, fish
Salads containing potatoes, meat or fish are particularly sensitive. For example, homemade tuna salad, if refrigerated immediately after preparation, can last three to five days before it begins to spoil. It is important not to leave such food at room temperature for more than two hours, as this enables the rapid growth of bacteria.
Fresh juices
Fresh, unprocessed juices are best consumed as soon as possible after purchase. Unlike processed juices, which are pasteurized to kill harmful bacteria and consequently have a longer shelf life, natural juices quickly become a breeding ground for bacteria. Some cold-pressed juices can last up to 30 days sealed, but should usually be consumed within four days.
Meat and fish
We have to be especially careful with fresh meat and fish. If you are not going to prepare the purchased meat within a day or two after purchase, it is best to freeze it immediately. It is recommended to keep fresh fish in the refrigerator for only one day, chicken and turkey for up to two days, and pork and beef for three to five days. Boiled or roasted meat is best consumed within three days.
