Everyone has their own idea of what makes a good horror movie. Some swear by the old classics, others are looking for something new and fresh. “Perpetrator (2023)” is a movie that combines both.
In the world of film, there are those who follow the rules and those who write them. “Perpetrator,” directed by Jennifer Reeder, definitely falls into the second category. Perpetrator (2023), which begins with a recognizable story about a masked assailant who kidnaps young women, quickly veers into the unknown.
We meet rebellious teenager Jonny, who is sent to live with her aunt Hildie, played by the magical Alicia Silverstone. On her 18th birthday, Jonny will inherit a supernatural family power called “the Forevering”. This power will help her investigate the kidnappings of her classmates. What follows is a dream-like journey through various film genres, including killer movies, giallo films and dark teenage comedies.
The film received mixed reviews, with a rating of 4.8 on IMDb (a pre-release rating). Some critics praised his uniqueness and willingness to take risks with new ideas. Others, however, felt that the execution was lacking, even though the idea was interesting. Nevertheless, Perpetrator (2023) attracted the attention of many viewers and was nominated for three awards.
