Sony has been naming its series of consoles by consecutive numbers ever since the original PlayStation 1 hit the market. Therefore, it is not a big surprise that the new generation is called Playstation 5.
At Sony have been much more tight-lipped about their future than rival Microsoft over the past year. Playstation fans were pleasantly pleased these days when they officially announced that their new generation console Playstation 5 (PS5) already in production.
The new generation of the console will come with controllers that should not visually differ much from the current DualShock 4 controllers. They will use improved vibration technology and updated adaptive L2 and R2 triggers. Apparently, the console will also charge via USB-C, which is a welcome change.
So Microsoft's competing console Xbox Scarlett like Sony's Playstation 5 (PS5) is said to be based on AMD's line of processors according to the specifications Ryzen and graphics Navi. PS5 also aims to support "ray-tracing". Ray tracing is a technique that enables complex and photorealistic lighting effects in 3D environments. An SSD drive is also an important upgrade, which will significantly reduce the time it takes to load games and thus solve one of the major problems of the current PS4 generation.
The Playstation 5 is expected to be available at the end of next year (December 2020), but the price is not yet known.
