Swedish electric car manufacturer Polestar continues to make great strides towards becoming a key player in the field of car electrification. The company has announced the production of an all-electric roadster concept that will be called the Polestar 6 – an expanded and revised version of the 2024 Polestar Precept. The roadster concept is expected to go into production in 2026 as the Polestar 6 with 500 numbered units. So - very exclusive.
As Polestar announced on August 16, 2022, the model that many fans of the brand had hoped for after the unveiling of the first “O₂ Concept” in Los Angeles in March 2022 will be realized. In a press release, Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath explained the decision: “Due to the overwhelming response from customers and the media, we decided to put this stunning roadster into production and I'm very pleased to be able to make it happen. The Polestar 6 is the perfect combination of powerful electric performance and the thrill of fresh air.”
As announced, the Polestar 6 features an 800V electric architecture and a twin-motor powertrain with 884 hp (650 kW) and 663 lb-ft (900 Nm), capable of a target acceleration from zero to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds . and a projected top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).
To celebrate the transition of the Polestar 6 from concept to production, the company will initially produce only 500 numbered examples of the special “Polestar 6 LA Concept Edition”. This first edition roadster will feature a blue “Sky” exterior, bright leather interior and 21-inch wheels – all features of the original Polestar concept.
Other electric Polestar models are also planned
Launched in 2017, the Polestar brand currently offers two electric vehicles – the Polestar 1 PHEV and the Polestar 2 BEV. Next up is the manufacturer's first all-electric SUV, the Polestar 3, which will expand the range in October 2022. Another SUV called the Polestar 4 has already been announced but is still awaiting its launch.
In the fall of 2020, Polestar announced that it will transform the roadster concept into a production model, which will be presented under the name Polestar 5. The Polestar 5 made its public debut - albeit disguised - at the Goodwood Festival in July 2022, and then is expected to go into production in 2024.
