Radovljica belongs to the bouquet of the most characteristic Slovenian medieval towns. Lovers of art, architecture, and history really have something to do, see and experience there. The old town center is full of cultural and historical attractions, to name just a few: ...
... the manor house with the City Museum, the castle park with a tree-lined avenue, the Gothic church of St. Peter with a restored rectory, city walls and the only completely preserved defensive ditch in Slovenia. The Beekeeping Museum in the baroque mansion in the old part of the city is worth a visit, and in the surrounding area, of course, the Blacksmith Museum in Kropa, a good 10 kilometers from the city. On a walk through the old Radovljica, one must not pass by the typical middle-class houses, some of which have been converted into museums or galleries. The Šivčeva house with a gallery and a wedding hall, the Renaissance manor Vidičeva house and Magušarjeva house with a late-Gothic arcaded courtyard stand out. The current owner of the house, Urban Magušar, is a renowned potter who creates his artistic pottery in his home workshop, where he also conducts pottery courses. From spring to autumn, the house comes alive with art exhibitions and concerts in the courtyard, and the sales gallery is open all year round. We should also mention Mali's house with a shameful bench, which is a rarity, because mostly we know shameful columns or pangers. Lovers of good, traditional food can enjoy the real offer in the old town. We definitely recommend the Lectar inn, where you can enjoy good old Slovenian dishes in the wonderful ambience of a more than five hundred year old house. On the opposite side of Linhart square is the Augustin tavern, which, just like Lectar, was frequented by guests in the 19th century. In the city, you can also eat well at Kunstlj.
WALKING!
When we are full of good food and full of cultural and historical impressions, we may be carried away by the surroundings, especially sporty types have plenty of choices. Although the city also provides recreation. Especially in the summertime, a popular meeting place for young people is the city swimming pool, which, with its new 50-meter Olympic pool, also attracts serious athletes and top swimmers. Next to the pool, which is covered with a giant balloon in winter, so that the swimming season lasts all year round, there is also a camp where you can spend a short vacation. For those who are not attracted to steady swimming, but love water, Tinaraft center or Fun Rafting is the right address for them. Both will provide you with an unforgettable experience on wild river rapids, but for the braver ones, the real challenge is canyoning, where experienced guides take you into the wild world of narrow streambeds and rivers; you will slide down waterfalls, climb ropes and jump into mysterious pools. If you prefer the air, head to Lesce Airport, where the Alpine Aviation Center organizes panoramic flights with small sports planes, but you can also fly with a glider. They say gliding through the air without a motor is a wonderful experience. The craziest thing is to jump with a parachute, you can try it in tandem with an experienced skydiving teacher, or if you like it, even take a skydiving course! Some people look down on mountains from the air, others prefer to walk them. The Radovljica Mountaineering Association is the right address for help, guidance, or even for organizing a mountain trip or camp. If you are going to Gorenjska for several days, the Šobec Camp is an excellent starting point for all the mentioned activities, excursions and tours, which stretches in a pine forest, caught between a small lake and Sava Dolinka, with a wonderful view of Karavanke and the Julian Alps. Another tip for enthusiastic hikers: between Radovljica and Kamna Gorica, the Pusti grad natural history trail winds its way along forest and field paths between Radovljica and Kamna Gorica. It is just under five kilometers long, and you can walk it in two hours, even by yourself, as it is well marked. The continuation of this route is the Grabnarc water learning route, which also takes two hours, and on it you will be able to enjoy the unspoiled nature along the stream of the same name. You can ask about the start of the route at the TIC office in Radovljica.
BREZJANSKA WAY OF GOD
It is also right to mention the pilgrimage basilica of Mary Help of Christians in Brezje, where the paths of our believers converge. Even if you are not religious, the almost forty-meter-long Neo-Renaissance church is worth a visit, and Brezje is a place that fills a person with peace. The Church already knew where to place the holy temples.
THEY ARE HOME HERE
Finally, we must not forget the almost cult brand from Gorenjska. For decades, Begunjski Elan has been providing top-quality equipment for skiers, both professionals and Sunday lovers of white snow meanders. From skis to snowboards and, of course, appropriate clothing. Ski pants, warm underwear, a suitable jacket... But gourmets squeal at the mention of Gorenjka, which we dare to say can even compete with the planetary purple Milka. Radovljica will certainly not disappoint you, and it is still close, since we are rapidly building the Gorenje highway.
