These Christmas cookies are simple vanilla cookies covered in colorful holiday frosting.

Ingredients

  • 225 g of softened butter
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • – 1 large egg
  • 3 cups plain flour
  • 3/4 tsp baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • icing for sugar cookies

Directions

  1. Heat the oven to 180 degrees. Line 2 baking trays with baking paper.
  2. Beat the butter and sugar in a large bowl until creamy.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla, beat until the mixture is completely combined.
  4. Add the flour, baking powder and salt and start mixing slowly.
  5. Sprinkle the work surface with flour and roll out the dough. Pay attention to the thickness.
  6. Extrude the shapes with the cookie cutters and transfer them to the prepared baking sheets with a knife or spatula.
  7. Bake for 10 minutes until the cookies are golden brown.
  8. Allow the cookies to cool completely.
  9. In the meantime, prepare the sugar coating for the cookies. In a special bowl, use an electric mixer to mix the egg white, sugar and lemon juice to get a thick sugar mixture. Add food coloring for colored frosting. Decorate the cookies.
