Princess donuts or profiteroles are an Italian delicacy that is popular all over the world. It is made from cooked dough and a wonderful vanilla filling. Since the dough has a neutral taste, you can also prepare princess donuts in a salty version.
Swedes are known for the most creative recipes for this delicacy. There is a whole tradition that dictates which color of donut princesses is appropriate for which holiday: yellow for Easter, red for Christmas, white for weddings, orange for Halloween.
The Italians do not complicate things, making them according to their recipe is simple.
Italian-style profiteroli or princess doughnuts
Ingredients
- 120 g of flour
- 70 g of butter
- 100 ml of water
- 100 ml of milk
- 2 eggs Ingredients for the filling:
- 200 ml of whipped cream
- icing sugar
Directions
- Mix water and milk in a pot, bring to a boil. Add the butter and cook until melted, then set aside and sprinkle the flour into the mixture. Stir constantly until a dough forms. Add the eggs, one at a time.
- Place the balls with a spoon on a baking sheet lined with baking paper. Bake in a heated oven at 200°C for about 20 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 180°C and bake for another 20 minutes.
- Open the oven a little and let them cool in it.
- Whip the sweet cream and pour it into a pastry bag and fill the dough.
- Sprinkle with powdered sugar or cover with melted chocolate.
