In the world of motoring, there are rare moments when passion for speed and cutting-edge technology come together, but Red Bull has achieved it with the new RB17, which promises the performance of an F1 racing car for the lucky few.
An engineering marvel RB17 is the result of many years of experience of Adrian Newey, chief technician at Red Bull Racing, which previously participated in the development Aston Martin Valkyrie. RB17, which will be limited to 50 copies, represents Newey's first solo project under the Red Bull brand.
RB17 hypercar it uses a carbon two-seater monocoque chassis, with the engine part of the chassis as a load-bearing element. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential gearbox and a hydraulically locked active differential. You drive back with the help of the electric motor, as the vehicle does not have a reverse gear.
The electric motor contributes 200 horsepower (149 kW) of the total 1,200, while the V-10 engine provides the remaining 1,000 horsepower (745 kW). The top speed of the RB17 exceeds 350 km/h (217 mph).
Aerodynamics is a key part of the RB17's design, as the vehicle generates up to 1,700 kilograms of downforce (3,747 lbs), which is almost twice its own weight. Built-in systems for managing the air flow around the wheels and active front and rear wings make it possible to adjust the thrust force to different driving conditions.
The RB17 chassis is also exceptional. Adaptive suspension with push rods at all four corners includes active height and roll control and a lift mode for going over bumps at low speeds. The steering is hydraulically supported, and the braking system has carbon brakes on all wheels, with only the rear brakes controlled by an electronic braking system.
To keep all that power on the road, the RB17 uses 18-inch carbon fiber wheels with Michelin racing tires. Buyers can also choose a 20-inch version with high-performance tires.
The RB17 is designed for easy and frequent use. Custom-made seats, adjustable pedals and built-in storage for racing suits and helmets are just some of the features that make for an enjoyable experience. The engine uses regular gasoline and each car comes with a 2-year warranty or 4,000 kilometers (2,485 miles), whichever comes first. Major services are scheduled every 8,000 kilometers (4,970 miles) and must be performed at the company headquarters (GPFans).
Red Bull plans to host private events for buyers to use their cars at racetracks around the world. Owners will also be invited to Red Bull Racing circuits, where they will be able to participate in simulator sessions and social events (Autoblog).
The RB17 is the first real manifestation of Red Bull's knowledge and innovation in the world of hypercars. The price of each vehicle is around 5 million pounds (about 6.4 million dollars), which includes customizations according to the wishes of buyers and access to special events and training programs. However, all 50 examples already have their buyers.
RB17 it's not just a car, it brings together the best of the world of Formula 1 and brings the race track experience into the hands of the lucky elite.
