A TOUCH OF DOMESTICITY Next to an old Roman archaeological site from the 3rd century and the remains of an Old Slavic burial ground from the 10th century in Borova vas in Maribor, the facade of Villa Rustica flourishes. A visitor may think of the building's cold interior when looking at its exterior, but the opposite is true. Vila Rustica is a restaurant owned by Peter and Andreja Rajšek for seven years. As they themselves say, and visitors can quickly see for themselves, they try to make the restaurant as homely as possible for the guests, since it is actually a family run, run by a couple with the help of long-term colleagues. They create homeliness with decoration, which ranges from details on the lights to tablecloths and food on the plate. They have their own decorating ideas, and they pay a lot of attention to natural decoration materials, such as clay on the chandelier, etc. At the time of our visit, the tables were decorated with sunflowers, and as they say, the ambiance will soon be colored with autumn. What does Vila Rustica offer us? Excellent Italian cuisine, as the couple brought their knowledge and experience from Spain, where they worked in Italian restaurants, to Maribor. On the menu you will find everything from meat dishes to pasta and fish, as well as pizza, which is indispensable in Italian cuisine. We are salivating when Peter Rajšek presents house specialties in his cooking, such as veal with porcini mushrooms, steak with porcini mushrooms, chicken fillet with gorgonzola, prosciutto and mushrooms... We must not forget the seasonal dishes, which are given special attention at Villa Rustica . In autumn, we can treat ourselves to gourmet delights with chestnut soup, chicken fillet with chestnuts, chestnut cake... For the New Year, a special festive menu will be prepared. For those of you who still don't know how to get to Villa Rustica: follow the road of the Proletarski brigada to the west (Pekerski gorci, Borovi vasi, ...) until the end, the road turns left, then turn left again and drive straight in front of Villa Rustica .
