The premiere of Camillo Daint-Saëns' great French opera Samson and Delilah is approaching. It will be staged for the first time on May 13, 2016, in the great hall of the Slovenian National Theater (SNG) Maribor in co-production with Opéra-Théatra Metz Métropole.
French grand opéra Samson and Delilah is considered the most successful musical and theatrical work Camillo Sant-Saëns, which contemporaries have repeatedly compared to Mozart's musical genius. The composer is the opera, which the story is taken from the famous biblical story of the Jewish hero Samson with extraordinary power, creating for more than a decade.

First she was conceived as an oratorio, but librettist Lemaire saw great potential in the love affair between Samson and the seductress Delilah, who was bribed by the Philistines to reveal to them the secret of Samson's power. Ballet scenes, large singing ensembles and choirs and scenographic luxury they contribute to the exceptional spectacularity of the work. This is returning to the Slovenian opera stage after a hiatus of more than a century.
