The first Slovenian production of Seneca's Medea, directed by Meta Hočevar and with Nataša Barbara Gračner in the central role, conquers the big stage of Ljubljana Drama.
“Medea - exiled, humiliated, robbed, deceived, lawless, without everything, wiped out - she can lose nothing more because she has already lost everything. If we omit Medea and convert the adjectives to plural, we get: persecuted, humiliated, robbed, deceived, lawless, without everything, wiped out, they cannot lose anything because they have already lost everything”. The principal is so eloquent Dramas Igor Samobor pointed out the metaphorical similarity between the time 2,000 years ago, in which Medea was created, and the time we live in today. Medea is presented on the Drama stage in translation Jere Ivanc, directed and on stage Mete Hočevar, with music Dear Ivanuše and with Nataša Barbara Gračner in the main role.
The mythical tragic story of Medea, who takes revenge on her unfaithful husband with the most unfathomable crime – the murder of children, acquires dimensions in Seneca that go beyond intimate, family relationships. Nataša Barbara Gračner experienced the role of Medea as a role already condemned in advance. But at the same time, he emphasizes that with this performance, the audience is not offered an answer, but is left to him to change his initial judgment.
A performance that must be experienced.
