Do you know which sleeping position is best for your health?
According to Ayurveda, it should be sleeping on the left side, also called Vamkushi, the best sleeping position. It should contribute to our health, as it should facilitate the work of the organs. Not only that, but sleeping on your left side is said to have other health benefits. Let's see!
Better heart function
Our heart is on the left side, and when you sleep on that side, gravity helps the lymphatic system, taking some of the work off the heart.
Better digestion
Sleeping on the left side is supposed to help the small intestine with gravity to more easily pass food waste into the large intestine through the ileocecal valve. This facilitates the removal of feces from the body.
Good position for pregnant women
Experts advise pregnant women to sleep on their left side as much as possible, as this helps take pressure off the back and increases blood flow to the fetus and uterus. Sleeping on the left side is also said to help with the smooth flow of nutrients to the placenta.
You can bend your knees slightly and hold a pillow between your legs to make the position more comfortable.
Prevents snoring
You may not believe it, but sleeping on your left side is actually said to help reduce and even stop snoring. The reason for this is that sleeping on the left side keeps the tongue and throat in a neutral position, which keeps the airways free and makes it easier to breathe properly.
Sleeping on your back, on the other hand, can worsen snoring and make breathing difficult.
Improved blood flow
The spleen is part of the lymphatic system, which is also on the left side, and in addition to lymph, it also filters blood. When you lie on your left side, gravity helps and facilitates drainage back into the spleen.
Other advantages
In addition to these benefits, sleeping on the left side is said to have other positive effects on our health, such as relieving neck and back pain, helping to clear toxins from the body, preventing many serious diseases, improving kidney and liver function, preventing acidity and heartburn, and and positive benefits for the brain.
