Slovenian photographer Matjaž Krivic, Urbanista: Urban does not necessarily mean modern

Matjaž Krivic, Urbanist

Slovenian Matjaž Krivic is a travel photographer who shows us the themes of poor parts of the world, rich in tradition and the mystery of their religions. With the photographic project "Urbanistan" he reveals that urban does not necessarily mean modern, and through it he takes us to the traffic frenzy of Calcutta, to the cheapness of nightlife in Bangkok, to chaotic Tokyo, to the suffocating and dusty streets of Cairo, to the carousel of hedonistic and aggressive Rio. ..

Matjaž Krivic it is travel photographer, who gave us a photo project "Urbanist" proves that urban does not necessarily mean modern, as through beautiful photographs he shows the theme of poor parts of the world, rich in tradition and the mystery of their religions. The road has become his home, and so has the beauty of our planet He has been taking photographs for 20 years to intensive, a peculiar and aesthetically superior way, which brings him many prestigious awards. Most of the time, we will find him with a camera in his hand somewhere on the way between the Sahara and the Himalayas. The urbanist takes his mind to the traffic frenzy of Calcutta, to the cheapness of the neon-sexual nightlife in Bangkok, to the incredible structure of chaotic Tokyo, to the suffocating and dusty streets of the (barely) living body of decaying Cairo, to the carousel of hedonistic and aggressive Ria, to irresistibly self-indulgent Manhattan, to the global supermarket of turbo consumerism.

But Urbanist Matjaža Krivica is a miraculous anti-thesis of the above. It is a story from the other side – a story of a quiet voice on the fringes of complete existential, religious, economic and geopolitical chaos. A story about unbreakable spirit and the eternal search for inspiration, which enables survival. It is a story about individuals and social groups who, despite the noise and general urban anxiety, are looking for the core of being in a different place and in a different time. It is a story of survival through play, prayer, tradition, rituals, travel, socializing and, above all, the special light that the author sees and records so well. Urbanistan is a city that offers a break from the city. Any.
