Small House – a small house on an area of 4 by 4

Small house - a small house

In one of the most densely populated areas of Tokyo, a couple with one child decided to build a house. Nothing like that, if only the area intended for construction was not a minimum size of around 34 square meters.

The Japanese came into action Unemori Architects. They drew a four by four meter square in the ground and left some space to the neighboring houses (which are extremely close, almost touching) to catch light and air. So they started to build from the square to the sky and a house with four floors with a total area of 67 square meters was created. The architects clad the entire house in wooden boards, as are the blinds for the huge windows that the small house boasts.

The interior is simple, with three floors winding above the entrance and one below, all connected by a white spiral staircase. Each floor has a single room and includes two bedrooms, a dining room and a kitchen. There is also a bathroom on the roof, covered in glass and with a view of the neighboring roofs. Every room has a huge window – compared to a small house and a small room, the window is really huge. As the architects say, when the window is opened, it completely changes the image of the house and suddenly there is a feeling that the room is located outside.

Small House it really proves that even the seemingly impossible can be done with a good idea.
