"Bon Appetit!" and a school of fish swims by. You probably think that we are describing a scene from some wacky movie or children's cartoon. No, we are not describing the movie or the cartoon. It is the work of the Norwegian architectural studio Snøhetta, which, among other things, took care of the reconstruction of Times Square in New York. The first underwater restaurant in Europe is planned in the north of Norway.
On it stands in the south of Norway near the village of Båly Under, the first underwater restaurant in Europe. Visitors will be able to feel the wildness of Norwegian nature, especially the (near) sea, as it is more or less surrounded only by rocks. Building which half lies below sea level, will also be a research center for marine life. Under is basically a kind of monolith with meter thick concrete walls, which successfully resist any ground movements. The part that lies below the surface has been designed and built in such a way that it does not act as an alien to marine life and, in fact, on the outer surface attracts shellfish, to cling to it. Very low lighting in the restaurant will help visitors observe the marine life through a window measuring 11 m × 4 m.
Visitors enter the restaurant, which can accommodate 80 to 100 guests through 3 floors. They first stop in the dressing room, then proceed to the room they are in served with champagne and from which they will be able to observe the transition between land and sea. Then they will go down to the restaurant, which has been decorated and painted to resemble the seabed. The dominant colors are blue and green.
Is this a good reason to visit Norway?
