Protection from the sun is still important, and therefore we should not ignore the fact that we have been applying sunscreen incorrectly all our lives. Researchers from Liverpool have also proven this and are now warning us to be more careful, especially in the face area.
Researchers at the University of Liverpool have recently asked 57 participants, should apply sunscreen as usual. Then they took photos with na UV-sensitive camera, to see where they went wrong. And it turns out that humans are really not good at it.
Let's leave out large areas of skin
"On average, people make mistakes 9.5 percent of the skin on the face, the most frequently missed area are eyelids (13.5 percent) and the area between the inside of the eyes and the nose (77 percent),” said researchers from the University of Liverpool.
The researchers asked the participants to they repeat the experiment, this time they were given some more information about skin cancer in the eyelid area. Armed with this information, participants applied sunscreen better, with 7.7 percent of the face still left unprotected.
Kevin Hamill, a doctor from the Department of Eye and Vision Research, said: "It is worrying that people use sunscreen so casually on the face area, which is particularly exposed to the risk of skin cancer due to exposure to the sun. Perhaps the most important thing about this research is that they are right sunglasses. Most people believe that sunglasses protect the eyes, especially the cornea, from UV damage and make it easier to see in bright sunlight. However, sunglasses do much more: they also protect the skin of the eyelids.”
Now you know they are good sunglasses are a must, as well as correct application of sunscreen, especially on sensitive facial skin.
