Sony also jumped into the drone industry, as the company quickly showed off its new Sony Airpeak drone at the virtual CES 2021. It is said to be the world's smallest drone that can carry Sony's Alpha camera, and is designed for video content creators and professional photographers.
At the moment, there are very few concrete details about the new drone Sony Airpeak, although the company mentioned that they are already exploring the use of Airpeak for capturing landscape and urban footage with the help of professional drone users. The model presented at CES 2021 is designed as quadcopter and has two landing gear extensions, which hide during the flight (so as not to spoil the recordings). Just like a joke, the drone is capable of dynamic filming and precise, stable flight.
While this is Sony's drone debut, their cameras are among the best in the industry – so much so that market leader DJI already offers camera mounts Sony Alpha. And the idea of Sony applying that expertise to the drone industry is certainly intriguing.
Sony originally announced the Airpeak brand in late 2020, and we can expect an Airpeak drone in the spring of 2021.
