The Sony Inzone H9 II combines the premium sound of the WH-1000XM6, comfort for long sessions, and a detachable microphone that makes it versatile. But the price may surprise you - is it really worth $350?

Imagine playing your favorite game where every enemy step sounds like a real threat while the world around you falls silent. The Sony Inzone H9 II promises just that, but with a twist: why pay so much for a pair of headphones that look like regular wireless headphones but are aimed at elite gamers? Developed in collaboration with the Fnatic team, this newcomer is an upgrade over the original H9 from 2022 that might convince you to replace your old set – if you can afford it.

What's new in the Sony Inzone H9 II?

Sony has taken lessons from its flagship WH-1000XM6 and applied them to the gaming world. The main upgrade is the 30mm soft-rimmed carbon fiber drivers, which deliver balanced sound with punchy bass and a spatial effect. Compared to the original H9 from 2022, the sound is clearer, from distant footsteps to deep vibrations, which is ideal for games like Valorant or Apex Legends. The design is thinner and lighter – just 260 grams – with an improved headband and ear cushions that rotate and adjust to avoid pressure during long sessions. Ironically, Sony has made headphones that are so comfortable that you’ll even wear them outside the gaming room, thanks to the detachable microphone.

Sound and surround effects: like you're in the game

Sound is king here. With support for 360-degree surround sound and virtual 7.1-channel surround, the Inzone H9 II immerses you in the game. Tests show that the bass of rocket launches in Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 sounds separate from other sounds, which gives it an advantage in competitive games. Active noise cancellation blocks out computer fans or office noise, but it's not as advanced as in the WH-1000XM6 - it lacks a full transparency mode that would let you hear your surroundings without removing the headphones. The Inzone Hub software allows you to adjust the EQ, but only three profiles focused on first-person shooters, which is a shame for fans of other genres.

Microphone and connectivity: no lag, just warnings

The detachable microphone is a big new feature – you can now remove it and wear the headphones like regular wireless ones. It uses AI to filter out ambient noise, making it clear even in noisy environments, although tests show it’s not flawless in very loud situations. Connectivity is dual: a 2.4GHz USB-C dongle for low-latency on PS5, PC, Switch or mobile devices, plus Bluetooth for simultaneous connection to your phone. The battery lasts up to 30 hours, which is solid, but less than competitors like the Razer BlackShark V3 Pro (70 hours) or the HP HyperX Cloud Alpha 2 (250 hours). Here’s the irony: for $350, you’d expect more, right?

Comparison with the competition and the original

Compared to the original H9, the II is better in every way – a better microphone, a lighter design and superior sound. But the price is shocking: the original sells for around $190 / €150, while the Pulse Elite is just $150 with magnetic drivers. Competitors like the Razer Kraken V4 Pro ($400) add haptic motors, but the Inzone wins in sound clarity. If you’re looking for a premium experience for PS5 or PC, this is the choice, but for casual gamers it may be too expensive. In the EU, it’s priced around 360 euros * 400 dollars ... a rather expensive, but quality purchase among "toy" headphones.

Conclusion: Worth the investment or just hype?

Sony Inzone H9 II is a headset that combines gaming precision with audiophile sound, developed with the pros at Fnatic. It's comfortable, versatile, and sounds incredible, but the short battery life, limited EQ, and high price tag might make you skeptical. If you're a serious gamer who values sound above all else, give these a try—they might just become your new favorite. Available for pre-order in black or white, releasing fall 2025.
