Sony has officially launched the PS5 Pro, bringing significantly improved specs for the price of the $700. The console, which will be available from November 7, 2024, promises better graphics performance, faster ray tracing and AI image enhancement. But enthusiasts will have to dig deep into their pockets.

Sony has finally lifted the veil on the long-awaited PS5 upgrade – the Pro version. Priced at $700 and due out on November 7, 2024, this monster of a console will be quite the upgrade for those who value performance. But why such a price? Mainly due to the advanced graphics processor, which is as much as 67 % more powerful than the base PS5. It is joined by PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) – Sony's version of AI-upscaling technology that promises smooth performance at higher resolutions.

The biggest innovation is an attempt to remove the eternal doubt between the game modes "fidelity" and "performance". The PS5 Pro will allow gaming at higher frame rates while retaining graphical goodies such as more realistic ray tracing and higher resolution textures. Titles such as The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered and Spider-Man 2, will thus come to life directly on this system. Of course, there will be no shortage of upgrades for games from third-party developers, such as Alan Wake 2 and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

If you are a fan of older games, PS5 Pro it will not disappoint you here either. The Game Boost function will improve the performance of more than 8,500 games from the PS4 catalog, with special corrections for better image quality. Although the PS5 Pro is no bigger than the base model, it also comes with double the storage capacity – 2TB, which will be especially handy for all those giant games of the future.

However, there is an important detail: if you want to have a "physical diskette drive", you will have to shell out an additional $100. Also, keep in mind that a vertical stand will require additional payment. What about the competition? Microsoft is taking a bit of a backseat for now, as their newer consoles mostly only offer cosmetic changes or additional storage.

Will the PS5 Pro be worth 799 euros ($700)? It depends, if the graphical perfection, fast thumbnails and future-proof games are worth this price to you.

The PS5 is a huge hit for Sony, with 61.7 million units sold by June 2024. With the launch of the PS5 Pro and the already existing PS5 Slim version, the company is poised to continue its dominance in this generation of consoles. The PS5 Pro brings significant upgrades that will further strengthen Sony's position in the market, offering greater graphics performance and faster data processing, which is sure to attract more demanding gamers. The combination of different models allows Sony to cover a wider market, from ordinary to advanced users.
