Meet BÄSINGEN: IKEA gadgets that (finally) make your life at home easier

Functionality with a pinch of Scandinavian charm

Life at home can be a bit of acrobatic competition – especially when wet bathroom tiles, slippery rugs and an "unreachable" towel are involved. IKEA has taken things a step further with the BÄSINGEN collection – an inclusive product range for anyone who wants more comfort, safety and confidence at home.

New IKEA collection BÄSINGEN includes six accessories that are so practical that you'll almost forget they were created with your home environment in mind. What's in the collection? Two steps with a handle (no, they're not just for kids), a shower seat, a toilet paper holder, a towel holder and a stylish shower shelf. Each piece is designed for a wide range of users - from young families, the elderly, people with temporary limitations to those who are having a "bad day" or just don't like losing their balance while showering.

"Many people face sudden and frequent situations where even something as basic as taking a shower becomes mission impossible. Unfortunately, our homes are often ill-prepared for such changes," he warns. Watte Zijlstra, product design developer at IKEA of Sweden AB.

Products that don't scream: "This is for the disabled!"

Quite the opposite. BÄSINGEN pieces don't want to be hidden in a corner or shyly wrapped in utilitarian gray. They clearly visible, durable, with softly rounded edges and a stable construction that doesn't slip, even when you're doing "wet tango" style ballet moves around the bathroom.

Aesthetic details – such as anthracite color, which elegantly fits the products into any interior – they are not just for Instagram, but also have a practical role: the contrast makes the products more noticeable, which increases safety.

More than just design – it's understanding life

Designer Sarah Fager, who was behind the BÄSINGEN design, approached the project with feeling and research zeal.

“This was one of my most challenging projects. I really wanted to understand what people with mobility limitations need – not just physically, but also emotionally. BÄSINGEN should not only be functional, but also beautiful and homely. Not something to hide, but something you enjoy using,” she says.

And let's face it - in a world where we often pretend that we are all infinitely capable and mobile, such a dose of honest design comes as a balm to the ego and knees.

Who is BÄSINGEN for? For everyone. For you too.

Whether you have small children at home, a grandmother with a sore knee, or you just want a little more security and stability during your morning routine – The BÄSINGEN collection will not disappoint you.Because there are days in life when we need a little extra support - whether it's a physical handhold or just the feeling that someone is thinking of us.

The collection is now available in store IKEA and online too – so, there's no excuse to stick with that old, creaky shower chair.
