A serious SUV for people who carry an axe in the trunk

The Outback has long been a unique example of a car: It's no longer quite a station wagon, but it's not quite a true SUV yet either. With the new, seventh generation for 2026, it has become even clearer – Subaru Says goodbye to the classic station wagon and builds something all his own: a raised crossover with the soul of a station wagon and the stance of an SUV.

The new Outback is designed taller, more boxy and with more pronounced lines. All this not only for style, but for greater functionality: more space inside, more glass, better visibility outside, more luggage space – up to 34.6 cubic feet (980 liters) for the second row. In addition, it is possible to fold the seats completely flat and even sleep in the car. Tested. Part of the trunk floor hides full-size spare Bridgestone Dueler A/T, not just an emergency wheel.

Outback Wilderness remains a separate world in the Outback family. It has increased ground clearance (241 mm or 9.5 inches), standard skid plate and better entry/exit angles:

  • Entry angle: 20°
  • Break angle: 21.2°
  • Exit angle: 22.5° (slightly less than before)

In addition, the new Wilderness version has completely redesigned suspension with e-damper system – electronically controlled dampers that automatically adjust based on steering input, data from the ECU and vehicle movement. The driver cannot choose the settings themselves, but the electronics work surprisingly well. It all relies on independent suspension on all four wheels.
