Exciting news for watch lovers: Swatch and Omega have joined forces to create an exclusive Moonshine Gold watch inspired by the cold moon of December.
2023 has been an extraordinary year for Swatch and Omega, as the brand introduced several versions of its now sought-after Moonswatch watch collection. Most of these watches were launched during supermoons such as the Harvest Moon or on special occasions such as Swiss National Day.
The final watch in the 2023 series, the Moonswatch Mission to Moonshine Gold, will be launched just after Christmas, inspired by the cold moon in December. It has a seconds hand decorated with snowflakes that reflect the December full moon and a "secret" detail that glows in the dark.
The watch will be available globally in Swatch stores on December 27 for $295 each (300 euros / EU). Each watch is presented in an elegant decorative case, which is only for display and not for sale. Every new Moonswatch model that Swatch has ever released has been almost impossible to get hold of as they have all sold out immediately. This is not surprising, as the watch is effectively a cheaper version of the OMEGA Speedmaster, which normally retails for thousands of dollars.
Despite its affordable price, the Moonswatch represents an opportunity to own a timepiece that may not cost "the earth" (or any of the other planets or moons), but at least looks like it could. It is interesting that Moonswatches from the OMEGA series still only sells in brick-and-mortar stores, meaning Moonswatch hunters have to actually camp out outside local Swatch stores in the hopes of snagging one
