Virgin Trains have created an innovative 'Beard Cap' for men who believe their bushy beards are slowing them down when swimming. It is made of lycra, flexible and reusable. It wraps around the chin and, like hair, covers all hairy growth so that it no longer presents so much resistance. They will be tested for the first time at the largest European recreational swimming competition, the Great North Swim, which takes place in Great Britain.
At Virgin Trains UK made special swimming caps for beards, which help men with beards swim faster. They will be distributed among the bearded participants of the Great North Swim, which will take place between 12 and 14 June 2015 on Lake Windermere on the Island.
The cap is otherwise response to debates on swimming forums about whether bushy beards represent swimming obstacle. This prompted swimming event partner Virgin Trains to carry out research on the subject and the results showed that as many as 12 per cent of men believed that they a long beard slows you down, and almost a quarter say that they do obstacle during swimming.
The research revealed other advantages and disadvantages of beards, but if it stays on the topic, at Virgin Trains they made swimming caps for beards because they want to offer their customers a pleasant experience, even if it is not directly related to traveling by train.
