The Terraplanter was designed for all urbanites who appreciate plants but don't want the maintenance and mess associated with growing plants indoors.
A pot Terraplanter is made of a solid but porous ceramic material, and acts as a "water bank" that allows water to slowly seep through, allowing the plant to growing on the surface of the pot.
Terraplanter is the work of industrial designer and plant enthusiast, Eran Zarhi, and his partner, eco-entrepreneur Elad Burk. "I have been fascinated by nature since childhood," says Zarhi. "Through this project, I was able to combine my passion for plants and expertise in design to create a product that I am proud to share with friends, family and now the world."
The design was inspired by nature and the way plants grow in rainforests and other humid environments. There, the roots are exposed, i.e. they are above the ground, and they cling to moist structures with constant access to water and air. So on Terraplanter just 1,400 cells with a microtextured surface provides adhesion to the roots growing on the surface of the pot.
"Our vision to establish cooperation between design and nature has been fulfilled with Terraplanter," explains the design team. “Like a pot turned inside out, it allows the user to observe the growth process of plants on the surface: from seeds, roots that cling and grow while searching for water, foliage that reaches towards the light and, of course, beautiful flowers. "
Terraplanter is available at Kickstarter at an "early-bird" price of approx 54 euros, and the Terraplanter pots should be supplied this October.
