Elon Musk is preparing the biggest user experience update in Tesla history. Tesla Grock, a smart assistant with personality and humor, is coming to your Tesla, ready to give you the orders. And, believe me, he will be much nicer than your constantly smart-ass passenger! We will finally get a talking car with character.
If you think it's yours Tesla If you're already smart enough today, wait until you meet Tesla Grok. This assistant, which sounds like a cousin of Siri or ChatGPT, but with a bit more 'Elon factor', is on its way to your vehicle and promises to revolutionize the way we interact with our cars. It looks like we'll soon be pressing fewer buttons and chatting more - and not just to ourselves!
In early 2023, China already got an exclusive smart assistant that can chat naturally without annoying button holding – because, who has time to hold buttons in 2025? Now it seems that the Chinese were just beta testers, and the rest of the world is getting an even more improved version called Grok, which is currently on the verge of official publication.
Elon Musk has confirmed Grock several times - once even while playing video games live, which means the matter is serious (well, at least as serious as video games can be in the middle of the workday).
Your Tesla listens to you and even answers back. Finally someone! Tesla Grok
Tesla Grok will be able to do practically anything you can think of. From the usual things like looking up information, making lunch recommendations, to setting the temperature in your car, navigating, and even determining when and where to charge your battery. That way, you won't have to count percentages and kilometers anymore - because, let's face it, nobody likes that.
And good news for owners of older Teslas: Tesla will be doing all the heavy lifting on its own servers (yes, clouds are truly magical), so theoretically all vehicle models should be able to enjoy this luxury, even if they have slightly older electronics. Well, except perhaps Teslas with Intel processors – they may unfortunately be left out because they are clearly no longer a priority (hey, we all grow up eventually).
Grock personalities: from a foreign language teacher to an 'unhinged' way. Because life requires choices!
If you're worried your new Tesla will be too polite and boring, it's time to relax: Tesla Grok comes with a variety of personal modes. Green the only one, who can browse Tesla code faster than you can Netflix, found fun variations like a language teacher, a doctor, a children's storyteller, a motivator, a meditation guru, and even "unhinged mode", for days when you need a little madness (Elon approved?).
At the moment, it seems that Grock will initially be limited to vehicles with Ryzen processors, although Elon says otherwise. In any case, it's probably important to Grock that you have Tesla's Premium Connectivity - so yes, if you live in an area with poor signal, it might be time to consider moving or at least buying a new cellular plan. After all, what good is a talking car if it runs out of breath mid-sentence?
First look at the user interface: QR codes, three different voice personalities, and auto-listening
Green the only has revealed what the new Tesla Grok interface will look like in a Tesla. When you first start it up, you'll be greeted with a QR code (because you can't go anywhere without a QR code these days) that connects you to your account. After connecting, you'll either get a premium connectivity warning, or Grock will simply activate itself. You can then choose between three voice personalities: ERA, Rex, and Gork. Currently, activation requires pressing a button, but wake-up word activation is coming soon. "Hey, Grock" sounds good, right?
Grock listens to everything you say from the moment you activate the interface. So watch your words – you might soon run out of things to talk about on the long journey from Ljubljana to Koper.
Grock and the future of robo-taxis: A chat that takes you to your destination
But the most exciting thing is how Grock is connecting to an upcoming robo-taxi service. When you get in the robo-taxi, you'll be able to start a conversation with the car as if it were a driver in New York, except it won't tell you its whole life story and won't ask for a tip. Grock will suggest locations, offer attractions, and even act as a personal tour guide, doctor, or psychotherapist on four wheels.
When can we expect it? Tesla Grok “Soon” – because with Tesla, exactly never means exactly.
While there's no official date yet, rumors suggest that Grock is just around the corner, most likely in a summer update. But since this is Tesla, it might be a good idea to be patient - you know that Elon "soon" that sometimes means tomorrow, sometimes next year.
While we've seen a lot of revolutionary things from Tesla, this is definitely one of the biggest steps forward. Imagine a future where your car isn't just a vehicle, but a friend that listens to you, understands you, and - unlike your fellow passengers - never criticizes your driving skills.
Grock is coming, get ready to chat with a car that might become a better friend to you than most people you know.
Well, at least it will definitely be less stressful than most of your relationships.
And yes, Elon, don't forget to add the option that Grock doesn't expect a tip at the end of the ride. 😉
