Tesla Model S and Model X: 2025 Tesla update – lots of smoke, little electricity

Discreet renovation: When "new" is almost invisible

Model S

Tesla has finally updated its flagship Tesla Model S and Model X. And if you're expecting a revolution, we can save you time: no, it hasn't. Unless you're excited about the idea of paying 5,000 euros more for... almost the same vehicle.

Tesla today – more quietly than usual – introduced the updated models Model S and Model XBut if you park them next to last year's versions, even the biggest Tesla enthusiasts would need a magnifying glass. The visual changes are as subtle as a whisper in the wind, and most of the new features are hidden under the sheet metal, where only the most sensitive drivers - or Tesla itself - will notice them.

Fortunately, they boast a slightly quieter interior – less wind, less road noise and a bit more soundproofing, although there is no concrete data on this (as is often the case with Tesla). At the same time, a new suspension design and bushings (yes, those are those rubber tires between the chassis and undercarriage) are said to provide a more comfortable ride. But again – no numbers, just promises.

A new shade of blue and a better camera. Yes, that's it.

In addition to these almost imperceptible mechanical improvements, you'll also notice the new Model S and Model X new body color – Fost Blue, and new front camera, which is supposed to improve visibility. Inside, there's a little more ambient lighting (because at night you really can't do without colored light therapy) and a little more space in the third row in the Model X. And for those of you who wanted a steering wheel from a spaceship before: yes, yoke steering wheel remains – for additional 1,000 dollars, of course.

Plaid speed down, design up

Tesla says the Model S Plaid now has a design “optimized for high speeds.” Interesting, as the top speed has been reduced from 200 mph to 149 mph (321 km/h to 240 km/h). Which is kind of like a new supercar getting wings – and then losing an engine.

At least the acceleration remains brutal – 0–60 mph in 2.5 seconds, which will continue to delight those who like to prove their superiority on the scoreboard.

Reach: finally something positive

But they have only taken a step forward in terms of range. Tesla boasts that this is their longest ranges so far:

  • Model S Long Range: to 410 miles (660 km)
  • Model S Plaid: to 368 miles (592 km)
  • Model X Long Range: to 352 miles (566 km)
  • Model X Plaid: to 335 miles (539 km)

The new wheel designs are also said to improve aerodynamics and thus increase range, which is a better reason to upgrade than dynamic cabin lighting.

Fresh price, fresh shock – but as with all producers – higher:

All of these minor tweaks will require you to dig deeper into your pockets. Tesla has raised the prices of its updated models by 5,000 dollars, which means:

  • Model S: from $86,630
  • Model S Plaid: from $101,630
  • Model X AWD: from $91,630
  • Model X Plaid: from $106,630

Are these changes worth the price? It depends on whether you value the extra quiet or the extra cash in your wallet more.

Conclusion: Tesla-style modernization – subtle, confident, salty

If anyone other than Tesla had introduced such small changes at such a high price, it would probably have drawn a wave of criticism. But Elon's team is playing its game - and apparently still successfully. Time will tell whether customers will accept this "renovation" as evolution or as elegantly disguised stagnation.

One thing remains unchanged: Driving a Tesla is still a kind of technological performance with elements of cabaret – except now it costs a little more..
