In a new study they note that exercising to improve your mood doesn't have to be complicated and demanding. Literally any form of exercise, such as doing housework, walking, yoga can help improve your mood.
They are in the largest study to date studied data on the exercise habits and well-being of more than one million adult participants in the United States. The researchers found that they have people average about 3.5 days of poor mental health per month. Exercise, such as walking and doing housework, can reduce poor mental health by as much as 1.5 days. So any type of exercise will do something good for your mood.
So you don't need to spend time in the gym to improve yours mood. If your schedule is already so busy that you feel like you don't even have time to breathe, the good news is that you can do anything and you will be able to feel better. Adam Chekroud, lead researcher on the study, says that regular tasks affect us in this way physiologically as well as psychologically. On a physiological level, physical exercise can increases brain-derived neurotrophic factor, a protein closely related to mood regulation. Psychologically speaking, exercise is effective because because it makes us tired, we sleep better, and it's a comprehensive and effective approach to solving many things.
Chekroud says it is Exercise is an important tool for improving mental health, but this is by no means the only way. People need to be encouraged to seek medical advice and think about things like that treatment, counseling and psychotherapy if their condition is really severe.
